Dry hair is the bane of many women’s lives and often looks dull, lifeless is prone to split ends and is difficult to manage.
It is often caused by the hair’s oil glands not secreting sufficient natural oils, though can also be attributed to overuse of hair dryers, straighteners, chemical hair dyes, using bad products on the hair and exposure to the elements.
By reducing your hair’s exposure to heat, always operating hairdryers and straighteners on lower cooler heat settings, using shampoos and conditioners specifically for dry hair and by keeping hair wrapped up warm in winter and protected from the sun in summer these are the first steps to prevention.
As we age, dryness increases on both our hair and skin. To combat this, drink plenty of water to hydrate the body from tip to toe. Look out for ‘moisturising’ and ‘hydrating’ on shampoos when purchasing products as these will help restore much-needed moisture.

Traditional off-the-shelf hair care products contain, to varying degrees, chemicals that can cause serious harm. Potentially harmfull chemicals often found in the most popular brands include: Derivatives of Lauryl Alcohol – corrodes hair follicles, irritates the oil glands, drys scalp and causes hair loss, Ammonium/sodium Lauryl Sulphates – causes skin irritation,
Methylisothiazoline – may cause nerve damage, Propylene Glycol – antifreeze, Parabens a preservative that’s potentially harmful, Olefin Sulfonate – deodorized kerosene.

Wavy hair is hard to handle and frustrating to manage as it breaks easily, is impossible to tame and takes on a life of its own – this is your hair’s way of telling you it is not getting enough moisture. Always use shampoos and conditioners specifically created to add moisture. Look for products containing jojoba oil as this penetrates each hair follicle adding much needed moisture. Also use products containing nutrient rich botanicals to add essential vitamins.
